Celtic 'reject' significant bid for starlet Rocco Vata

Celtic have reportedly rejected a significant offer from Rocco Vata.

The Daily Record claims that the Scottish champions have knocked back a six-figure sum for the talented teenager.

The Hoops want the Republic of Ireland youth international to stay put at Celtic Park.

But it's believed this is unlikely with just a year remaining on his current deal.

However, the report does say that it's also not likely the attacker will leave in this window.

The bid was tabled yesterday from an unknown club. Torino and Club Brugge are among those believed to be interested.

With Celtic looking to stand firm and keep Vata for now, they run the risk of losing him in January when the B team star is free to pen a pre-contract agreement elsewhere.

Should a club overseas or in England look to pinch him, they will be able to do so for a smaller fee with Celtic due compensation.

The youngster has grown frustrated by his lack of first-team progress.

Vata, son of former Celtic Rudi, has been a standout for the club's B team in the Lowland League for some time.

He took part in the first team's pre-season tour of Asia but has not been involved on a matchday since.

He was included in the squad to face St Johnstone last weekend, but he didn't make the bench.

Meanwhile, Celtic transfer target Paulo Bernardo is set to arrive in Glasgow today, according to a report.

The Benfica winger is poised to become Brendan Rodgers' latest summer signing.

The Scottish Sun reports the 21-year-old is due in Scotland today to finalise talks with the Parkhead club.

They state that Bernando will join on an initial loan deal, with the Hoops obtaining the option to buy the player at the end of the season, similar to the previous arrangement with the Portuguese giants for Jota.

Should all of the relevant paperwork go through on time ahead of Friday's deadline, then the midfielder could even feature against Rangers this Sunday.

Luis Palma was officially unveiled as a Hoops player yesterday. Bernardo is set to join him, along with Nat Phillips as the champions bolster their ranks.

Bernardo's Benfica contract runs until 2027, so Celtic will be expected to pay a significant fee for him next summer should they decide to do so.

He's capable of playing in midfield or slightly further up the park in the number 10 role.
