Celtic put on Bodo Glimt weather red alert as Conference League foes warn of 'challenging' conditions

Bodo Glimt have warned Celtic the heavy snowfall around the Aspmyra Stadion will impact their Conference League clash tonight.

The extreme weather in northern Norway has been a major point of discussion ahead of the key second leg meeting.

Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou dismissed his counterpart Kjetil Knutsen's hint that the "awful" weather will play into the home side's hands as they look to see out the tie after a 3-1 win at Celtic Park.

And Knutsen's claims the weather will be the "most extreme" they have played in have now been backed by the club as they released a statement warning fans and viewers what to expect.

Tens and tens of Celtic fans have travelled to the Arctic Circle and the statement read: "It is snowing heavily in Bodo at the moment, and it creates a number of challenges for tonight's match between Bodo/Glimt and Celtic.

"We are currently working hard to clear away snow from the spectator areas at the stadium, but will not be able to remove the snow faster than new snow settles.

"Therefore, we want to prepare everyone who is going to tonight's match that there will be snow in the stands and seats around the stadium, even though it was brushed a short time ago.

"We apologise for the inconvenience this causes and hope that the weather does not put a stop to a good and entertaining football match in the snow showers at Aspmyra."

Postecoglou snubbed the chance to take his players out to Norway a day early and he said when quizzed on the weather: “Nah mate, we’ll be all right. People get a little bit carried away with this type of stuff.

“Trust me, I was involved with the national team mate and we went from playing in zero degrees to 45 degrees humidity in the Middle East in 24 hours, so I know all about it.

“From our perspective, we’ll make sure our players are ready to perform. It’s not about anything that extreme, we don’t have to go to altitude or anything.

“It’s just conditions we need to deal with – and we will. There are no easy solutions."
