Here are our Celtic player ratings Vs Young Boys as the Scottish side edged a tight encounter in the Champions League.
Brendan Rogers’ Celtic left it late on a nervy night in Glasgow, but an own goal from Young Boys was enough to hand them a vital victory.
The result means they are guaranteed at least a playoff spot in this year’s Champions League knockouts.
Celtic Player Ratings Vs Young Boys
GK: Kasper Schmeichel – 8
Produced a superb double-save in the second half that kept Celtic in it. The Dane bailed his side out on a few other occasions and a clean sheet is all you can ask from a keeper.
RB: Alistair Johnston – 6
A solid if unmemorable performance. Job done but wasn’t a huge contributor, though looked strong in defence.
CB: Cameron Carter-Vickers – 7
Won his battle with Silvère Ganvoula M’boussy, who tested him immensely.
Excellent in the air played a big part in keeping Young Boys out.
CB: Auston Trusty – 6
Did what was required of him but not much more. Unlucky to see a header hit the bar but should probably have scored.
LB: Greg Taylor – 5
Decent without the ball but offered little going forwards. Failing to put in a single accurate cross bumps his rating down significantly.
CM: Reo Hatate – 8
One of Celtic’s best performers on the night. Came close to scoring himself a few times as well as setting up others.
Was rewarded when his superb pass led to the winning goal late on.
CM: Arne Engels – 7
Made more chances than any other player, but his penalty miss was really poor.
Bags of effort and endeavour but didn’t quite come off for him, solid display though before being taken off with 20 to play.
CM: Callum McGregor – 9
A vital man for Brendan Rogers and Celtic. McGregor was excellent and almost scored an incredible solo goal.
Passing was a joy to behold and if anybody deserved to win that game it was him.
RW: Nicolas Kuhn – 6
Quiet and unassuming performance from the winger. Didn’t manage to get into the game how he would have hoped but wasn’t terrible.
LW: Daizen Maeda – 6
Caused plenty of problems going forward with his pace and work-rate.
Let himself down with that late red card which lowers his rating somewhat.
CF: Kyogo Furuhashi – 7
Could have been an 11/10 if his treble of disallowed goals had stood. Was absolutely sublime in the first half but faded after the break.
Replaced by Adam Idah in the closing stages.
Celtic Substitutes
- Paulo Bernardo: 6 – Came on in last 20 for Engles, decent but unremarkable.
- Alex Valle: 6 – Replaced Taylor late on.
- Adam Idah: 7 – Solid cameo, was involved in the winning goal.
- Liam Scales: N/A – Played the final few minutes, wasn’t on long enough to rate.
