Celtic player ratings v RB Leipzig as strikers leave shooting boots at home and UCL dream collapses

Celtic are out of the Champions League after four matches in Group F following a 2-0 loss against RB Leipzig.

It was almost the perfect start when Daizen Maeda was afforded a free header inside two minutes, but he couldn't convert from six yards out, while Matt O'Riley and Greg Taylor hit the woodwork. They would have been praying not to be punished for chances missed and had to rely on goalkeeper Joe Hart coming up trumps with a couple of key saves.

Then a hammer blow was struck, as Timo Werner headed home for Marco Rose's side after their hosts passed up chance after chance. Ange Postecoglou's side lost the away version of this one 3-1 last week and Emil Forsberg made sure they lost again, meaning their maximum points total of seven won't be enough to clinch last 16 football now, with third the best they can do. Here is how we rated the Celtic players at Parkhead.

Joe Hart - 7

Cost his team a goal last week in Germany but was a big player here. Two crucial saves to deny Leipzig an opener.

Josip Juranovic - 6

An industrious shift without much end product in attack for the Croatian. But a solid shift in defence.

Cameron Carter-Vickers - 7

The leader of this Hoops defence. Proving an important figure with captain Callum McGregor out, putting in a couple key challenges and providing calm for his partner to bounce off.

Moritz Jenz - 7

Seemed a lot more calm next to Carter-Vickers. Got across to make a couple challenges as the likes of Timo Werner looked to provide menace without much reward.

Greg Taylor - 7

Made a huge block in the first half to stop a tap-in for the away side and came so close up the other by hitting the bar. Only caught out of position on a couple of occasions but not punished.

Matt O'Riley - 7

Cracked the post with a fantastic effort in the first half. Playing the quarterback role well and did his share of the dirty work in tackling too. Providing great cover for McGregor.

Reo Hatate - 6

Seemed to panic when he got on the ball. Usually calm when he gets the chance but instant pressure from Leipzig saw him spray wayward passes.

Liel Abada - 6

Injured in the first half to add to concerns his manager will have over attacking options. Until that point he had been quiet.

Sead Haksabanovic - 7

Started a few promising attacks which his teammates should have scored for. Replaced the injured Jota and eased the pain with a dangerous attacking display.

Daizen Maeda - 6

So much running from the forward but again a goal alludes him. He should have scored in the first two minutes and needs something to life his confidence in front of the net.

Kyogo Furuhashi - 6

Now has scored once in 10 matches across all competitions. Got in the right spaces but like Maeda, final product is lacking right now.

James Forrest - 5

A great night for him on a personal note as he made appearance 450. Replaced Abada but lack of minutes looked clear as he tried to make things happen.

Aaron Mooy - 4

Provided fresh battling impetus in midfield but it mattered not.

David Turnbull - 4

Tried to unlock the German rearguard with his techenical ability as a substitute but didn't make much of an impact.

Giorgos Giakoumakis - 5

Replaced Kyogo in search of that key goal. Made his presence felt but the net didn't feel it.

Alexandro Bernabei -3

Made a late sub appearance to try and inject fresh pace into this team but introduction was too late.
