Joe Hart 5
Well beaten for five quality finishes by elite Real Madrid opposition. Sent wrong way for both spot-kicks and had little chance of stopping terrific Asensio, Valverde or Vinicius Jr strikes.
Josip Juranovic 5
Endured a difficult battle up against Vinicius Jr on the right side. Struggled to contain the waves of attacks down his side, then watched his first-half penalty saved by Courtois on a tough night in Spain.
Moritz Jenz 5
Gave away early penalty with a handball from Valverde’s mishit shot. Didn’t match the intensity of the Real Madrid attack and dallied on the ball at times in a disappointing showing.
Carl Starfelt 6
Thrust back into action on the biggest stage in Europe and coped well. A number of vital clearances and blocks but was powerless to keep the scoreline down.
Greg Taylor 5
Has enjoyed a stunning season to date but was just not at the level in Madrid. Tried o support attack when he could but was too busy desperately defending.
Matt O’Riley 6
Unfortunate to give away a second penalty for a handball. Was in the thick of the action both going forward and putting in a shift tracking back. Uncharacteristically wasteful in moments.
Reo Hatate 6
Led the high press from midfield and on occasion robbed the ball back in promising positions. Similar to his team-mates, just couldn’t take advantage in threatening positions.
Aaron Mooy 5
Not a vintage performance from the classy Australian. Largely anonymous in the first-half. Grew into proceedings but couldn’t dictate play from the centre of the park.
Liel Abada 7
A real bright spark on the flank in Madrid. Burst into box before being scythed down to earn a penalty. Was a constant nuisance and livewire in Celtic frontline. Just missing a final cutting edge to punish opposition.
Kyogo Furuhashi 5
Same old story in Europe for the Japanese forward. Plenty of industry and had a real opportunity but fired straight at Courtois as Celtic’s scoring struggles continued at the Bernabeu.
Daizen Maeda 6
Offered his usual relentless running and pressure in the final third. Teed up Kyogo in first-half but wasn’t able to carve out many chances for himself or team-mates.
Giorgos Giakoumakis (for Kyogo, 62) 4
Snapshot straight at keeper immediately after being introduced was best moment.
Jota (for Abada, 62) 7
Showed his quality with inch-perfect free-kick to beat Courtois in closing minutes. Flashes of brilliance on the ball.
Sead Haksabanovic (for Maeda, 62) 3
Offered some urgency from the bench but wasn’t hugely involved.
David Turnbull (for Mooy, 62) 3
Shot from distance never troubled Courtois.
Oliver Abildgaard (for Hatate, 82) 2
On for final exchanges.
