Celtic player ratings as Daizen Maeda struggles under Champions League spotlight in Leipzig

Celtic's dream of reaching the Champions League knockout stage was dealt a blow as RB Leipzig secured their first points of the Group F campaign.

The visitors got off to a promising start in the second half in Germany when Jota cancelled out Christopher Nkunku’s opener to give the Hoops real hope of a win on the road. However, things quickly turned against Celtic after Joe Hart's costly mistake led to Andre Silva putting his side back in front. The Portuguese striker added another before the full-time whistle, while Nkunku also struck the post for the Bundesliga side.

It gives Ange Postecoglou a mountain to climb if he hopes to reach the last 16, and a win in the return fixture against Marco Rose's side at Celtic Park is now a must for the Australian. There were flashes of what can be achieved by the Scottish Premiership champions and he will hope the home crowd play a big factor in Glasgow's east end.

But how did the players fair on the night? Record Sport rated the players on a disappointing night for the Parkhead players.

Joe Hart Rounded by Nkunku for the opener after being dinked by the Frenchman at the offside effort. Save from Silva and one-one from Werner. Absolute howler for Silva’s goal. 5

Josip Juranovic Right-back tried to get forward and assist Maeda. Not quick enough to stop Nkunku getting through for the opener. Croat battled hard on his side of the pitch. 6

Stephen Welsh Centre-back was plunged into a tough test alongside Jenz. Tracked across to cover Nkunku at an early chance. Under lots of pressure as Leipzig pushed. 6

Moritz Jenz Defender was back in his home town and was given a rough ride by the movement of Nkunku as he went short and also in behind. Allowed Silva to escape for his second. 6

Greg Taylor Vital block from Szoboszlai in first-half stoppage time as the Hungarian threatened a second after having a shot of his own saved by Blaswich. Kept fighting. 6

Callum McGregor Captain was involved in plenty before having to go off before half time with injury. Robbed at the edge of the Leipzig box as the hosts scored first. Hurt knee in process. 4.

Reo Hatate Japanese had a terrific opportunity when Gulacsi went down in the box and didn’t connect properly with his effort. Great first-time pass at Celtic goal. 7

Matt O'Riley Danish Under-21 star was tidy enough in possession without having a huge influence on the contest. Booked in the second period for a loose arm and lasted 75 minutes. 6

Jota Winger came off the left and a great ball in the opening period for Kyogo to head over. Calm and clinical finish when team-mate returned favour to set him up. 7

Kyogo Striker had three headed efforts and a shot deflected wide of the target in the opening half. Composed play to set up Jota goal with a perfectly timed and weighted pass. 7

Daizen Maeda Wide on the right and flashed a cross into the area for Kyogo to test Blaswich with a header. Had a difficult task against the pacy Raum and replaced. 5
