Celtic outcast offered exit opportunity but wants to prove his worth first

Maik Nawrocki's time in Scotland hasn't exactly gone to plan since he penned a five-year deal at Celtic

The Polish defender cost the Hoops £4.3million last summer, yet his game time was severely limited with the 23-year-old appearing just 10 times in all competitions last season.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales were Brendan Rodgers' preferred centre-back pairing throughout the double-winning campaign, while other options such as Stephen Welsh received more minutes when the go-to duo were absent instead of Nawrocki or fellow outcast Gustaf Lagerbielke.

Despite the lack of opportunities, it's believed Nawrocki is determined to remain in Glasgow's East End and fight for his future.

That's according to TVP SPORT journalist Sebastian Staszewski, who reports that his former club Legia Warsaw have made efforts to re-sign him this summer.

It's claimed Legia's director Jacek Zielinski reached out to the player about a possible move back to Poland, but the player declined the offer because he wants to see where he stands with Celtic during pre-season.

The Scottish Premiership champions are set to face Championship teams Ayr United and Queen's Park next month, followed by a pre-season tour in the United States.

Rodgers' squad will then compete against MLS team DC United and conclude their preparations with high-profile friendlies against Manchester City and Chelsea.
