Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has thrown his full support behind Viljami Sinisalo as the young goalkeeper prepares for his first Scottish Premiership start against Heart of Midlothian at Celtic Park on Saturday.
Sinisalo will step in for Kasper Schmeichel, who suffered a shoulder injury while on international duty with Denmark.
With no clear timeline for Schmeichel’s return, Rodgers is confident the Finnish shot-stopper is ready to take his opportunity.
“Yes, Vil will come in and play. He’s a very talented young goalkeeper, and that’s why we brought him here,” Rodgers said.
“He had a very good pre-season, he’s been outstanding in training, and I’ve watched him grow and develop.”
Having previously been on the books at Aston Villa and gaining experience on loan at Exeter City and Ayr United, the 23-year-old now has the chance to prove himself at Celtic.
Rodgers acknowledged the pressure that comes with representing the Glasgow giants but has no hesitation in giving the youngster his chance.

“With every player, it’s when you’re out in the arena of Celtic and beyond that you’re truly measured and judged,” Rodgers added. “But I’ve got no qualms about putting him in.”
Rodgers also provided an update on Schmeichel’s condition, revealing that the club is still assessing the extent of his injury.
“Well, we don’t know how long he’ll be out. We’re still waiting for further information. He’s got some issues with his shoulder,” Rodgers explained.
“I spoke to him the other day, and he’s okay. He’s obviously disappointed that Denmark lost their second game, but overall, he’s doing fine.”
Sinisalo’s first Premiership appearance comes at a crucial point in Celtic’s season as they look to build on their 13 point lead and lift a third successive league title.
