Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou reacts to Oliver Abildgaard link and predicts deadline day arrivals at Parkhead

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou after his side's 4-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall tonight

CELTIC manager Ange Postecoglou tonight admitted he is hopeful of strengthening his squad even further before the summer transfer window closes.

Postecoglou’s side booked their place in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final with a comfortable 4-1 triumph over Ross County in Dingwall this evening that stretches their winning run to six games.

First-half goals from Callum McGregor and Giorgos Giakoumakis and second-half strikes from Daizen Maeda and James Forrest secured a last eight game against Motherwell at Fir Park.

Postecoglou, who made no fewer than nine changes to his starting line-up, was pleased with how his team performed ahead of their cinch Premiership match against Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday.

The Greek-Australian coach, who has spent over £18m on eight new players this suymmer, has been linked with defensive midfielder Oliver Abildgaard of Rubin Kazan.

However, he is optimistic he will be able to bring in further reinforcements before the window closes at midnight.

Asked what fans can expect on deadline day, he said: “They can expect some transfers and ins and outs. We will see what happens over the next 24 hours.”

Asked about Abildgaard, Postecoglou said: “It's definitely a name. There has been a lot of names. Obviously, there are still 24 hours to go and some outgoings we are still working on as well. We will see how things fall over the next 24 hours."

Meanwhile, Postecoglou expressed hope that Albian Ajeti can resurrect his career at Sturm Graz after the Swiss striker moved to Austria on a season-long loan.

"Albi came in at a real difficult time for the club, with the Covid experience,” he said. "I can just imagine it would have been very hard for the players during that time.

"I then come along and change direction, but Albi is a good player and just needs an opportunity to go and play.

"Just because some players don't fit in here, doesn't mean they can't have strong careers elsewhere."
