Celtic legend Stiliyan Petrov reacts to son's Reform UK announcement

Celtic legend Stiliyan Petrov has reacted to the announcement that his son will be a candidate for Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party.

The midfielder, who won a treble with the hoops before moving to Birmingham and Aston Villa, spoke at a Premier Sports press conference.

His son, Stiliyan jnr, has revealed he would be a candidate in a council election in England for Reform UK, leading to some Celtic fans online reacting with anger and disappointment.

Petrov snr has now said his son is his own man and they don’t agree on everything.

In a party promotional video where Petrov jnr was filmed playing keepie-uppie and stating how both Labour and Tories had lied, stating he had “Had enough".

Petrov snr said: “First of all I’ve never been into politics, I never will be.

“My son is passionate about the world and I’ve encouraged that strongly.

“Even though we haven’t agreed in certain cases, he is his own man.

“He is an independent, young individual, who works hard, is happy to help the community, and you know what, he’s a young man who draws his own path in life and you know what, with the young kids now, they’ve got their own choices.

“But like I said, I’m miles away from politics, I don’t have an interest whatsoever.”
