Celtic legend Mikael Lustig returns to Glasgow with family for the first time since 2019

Celtic legend Mikael Lustig has officially returned to Glasgow with his family making it the first time since he left the club in 2019.

Uploading a video to Instagram, his wife, Josefin Lustig, shared snippets of their journey to the city with the pair boarding the plane with their children as they danced and took pictures of the views.

The former Celtic defender officially retired from football after 18 years as a player. Joining from Rosenborg, Lustig played for the Hoops between 2011 and 2019 after seven seasons with the Scottish champions.

Upon his exit, he thanked Hoops fans for "making Glasgow feel like home" saying he had "no idea how much this club and everything that comes with it would mean to me when I signed up."

He added: "I just want to say thank you to everyone I’ve had the honour to meet and work with at Celtic, all the players and staff.

"The memories will stay with me forever. Thank you to all of you that made Glasgow feel like home for me and my family for so many years. I will never forget your support. Hopefully I’ll see you all soon. I’ll definitely be back for the 10 in a row party!"

Now back in Glasgow, the former defender will soon be joining ex-Celtic captain Scott Brown who is currently in charge of Fleetwood Town after taking his first steps into management with an upcoming event soon to be held at the OVO Hydro.

Brown’s final game as Celtic captain was on May 15, 2021 and now almost two years to the day, the pair will reunite for 'A Night With Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig' which will take place on May 18 of this year with the event set to be presented by Shaun Ennis.

Taking to Instagram to confirm the event news Lustig said: "Celtic. A Club and a support that have a special place in my heart. It is time to go back to my second home, and say a proper farewell and thank you to the fans for all their love, support and relive some of the incredible moments we shared.

"I am delighted to be able to do this with my Captain, and good friend Broony.

"Our event will also support the amazing work of Celtic FC Foundation. I look forward to seeing you all HH."
