Celtic killer is Rangers transfer saviour as bitter Hotline turf war sees regular branded an insufferable motormouth

Rangers are in the market for another striker this summer with Alfredo Morelos’ six-year stint in Govan set to end. And according to one Hotline caller the answer might just lie at Celtic Park - at leat on Saturday he reckons it did.

Curtis Main is the unlikely recommendation after his double helped St Mirren earn a point at the home of the champions. Rangers followed up with a 3-1 win at Hibs on Sunday but without a recognised striker in the starting XI again.

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “Curtis Main was very impressive against Celtic, a strongly built centre who can out muscle defenders and was very unlucky not to have scored a treble. Is it worth Rangers having a look at this guy? Michael Beale bringing in free transfer light weights from overseas is no answer to Rangers’ biggest problem - finding a couple of big goal scorers. Yet they're staring him in the face - Lawrence Shankland, Kevin van Veen and now Main.”

Andrew Lamb has concerns at the other end of the park. He emailed: “Saddened to read of a bad injury to Connor Goldson. I would love to see a good left-sided centre back signed to play alongside John Souttar.”

Meanwhile Stuart McLeod, Stepps, was delighted with the performance of his side. He said: “I wonder how regular Rangers detractor Neil Renton must be feeling this week after his Hibs side were put to the sword by Rangers. Neil was telling us last week that the Rangers fans were getting carried away after a victory over Celtic and that they were bang average. This average Rangers team easily seen off an awful Hibs side. People should learn to focus on their own teams.”

But Jack Armstrong, Bathgate, said: “It's great to see the Rangers fans so ecstatic in the games that don't matter trophy. Can you imagine the euphoria if they actually won something? At least they have got the ‘just wait till next season’ cup to look forward to again.”

Hibs fan Kevin Lord, Drylaw, isn’t impressed with Lee Johnson’s record against the big teams. He said: “The Hibs manager has no concept about how to win or how not to lose games. Director of football Brian McDermott must have his manager’s plaque ordered.”

And John Caw was equally critical of referee Alan Muir particularly over the award of a free kick at Rangers’ opener. John emailed: “As per usual Mr Muir shows his love for the boys in blue. Todd Cantwell runs into a Hibs player and he gives foul from which Rangers score. At least he’ll get a runners-up medal.”

Over to Celtic and one Hotline regular had a message for another.

Michael Emonds, Northampton, said: “I see George Wilson has crawled out from underneath his rock for the first time in weeks to slag off Callum McGregor’s ambitions for Celtic in Europe. He say’s Callum doesn’t know what he’s talking about and yet he continues with the lie Celtic have done nothing in Europe for 20 years. Get your facts right Mr Wilson, Neil Lennon qualified from the group stage in season 2012/13 beating Barcelona en-route, Gordon Strachan also qualified from the group stage twice. So you’re the one as usual who doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Kevin Kean emailed: “You have to ask why Moritz Jenz and even Christopher Julien were discarded by Celtic especially as Stephen Welsh has not progressed to the level Postecoglou would deem adequate.”

Finally, to the other end of the table where Dundee United remain bottom after defeat at Livingston.

Tim Gibbens emailed: “After a promising start, Jim Goodwin is now in danger of becoming known as Jim Badloss. Forty years ago, Dundee United fans were celebrating winning the SPL title at Dens Park. Now, they’re facing the grim prospect of trips to Gayfield Park and Stark’s Park in the Championship.”
