Celtic 'interested' in move for £4.3m Swiss midfielder

Celtic is reportedly interested in signing top Swiss talent Alvyn Sanches.

The midfielder plays for FC Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland's Super League. Although the team struggled last season, he scored six goals in 27 appearances.

Numerous clubs from the English Championship and further afield on the continent are also tracking the 21-year-old.

However, the Daily Express claims Celtic are right in the mix to battle it out for his signature.

The report states that the Scottish Premiership champions sent scouts to watch Sanches throughout the 2023/24 campaign.

He is believed to have caught the eye of manager Brendan Rodgers, who is said to be impressed with the player.

It is widely expected that Sanches will leave Lausanne this summer.

However, it will cost any protective buyer a whopping £4.3m. That is the club's asking price.

It's claimed that both Stoke and Coventry City have been keeping a close eye on the player's situation, with teams in Germany, France - the country of his birth - and the Netherlands all holding an interest.

Sanches made his senior debut in football shortly after he turned 18. He has 100 appearances to his name and has been capped at youth level for Switzerland.

INEOS owns Lausanne. They are Sir Jim Ratcliffe's company, which also holds a controlling stake in OGC Nice in Ligue 1, and more recently purchased a minority shareholding in Manchester United this year.

Meanwhile, ex-Celtic winger Liel Abada netted a double to see Charlotte FC run out 3-2 winners over Atlanta United.

The Israeli forward scored twice in the second half to see his side win on the road in the MLS fixture.

And it also earned Abada bragging rights over former team-mate Giorgos Giakoumakis who currently turns out for Atlanta.
