Celtic 'hold' Brendan Rodgers talks in Mallorca over stunning return to replace Ange Postecoglou

Celtic chiefs have held face to face talks with Brendan Rodgers in Mallorca over a second stint at Parkhead, according to a report.

Chief executive Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay are believed to have travelled by private jet to the island to meet up in person with the former Hoops gaffer on Saturday according to the Daily Mail as they continue the hunt for Ange Postecoglou's successor in Glasgow.

The 57-year-old enjoyed two hugely successful seasons in the east end and ended his time at the club on the ultimate high by winning the Treble with victory over Inverness at Hampden. That also made it five domestic trophies from a possible six over his two seasons.

But he's now in the hot seat at Tottenham in the English Premier League with the Hoops now planning for life after the Aussie boss. Rodgers - who himself enjoyed a very successful stint in the big chair first time around - still retains the support of major shareholder Dermot Desmond with the same report stating he is now weighing up the pros and cons of a return.

He planned on a sabbatical from football after his exit from Leicester City earlier this year - the club he left Celtic first time around to join.

It is also noted that a return for Rodgers could also potentially persuade John Kennedy to stay on in his No2 role at the club. Ange wants to take him south of the border with him after penning a four-year deal in North London.

However, top brass at the club are reluctant to lose the long-serving coach and Rodgers' longstanding assistant Chris Davies is also emerging as a frontrunner to land a job in his own right at Swansea City, claims the same news outlet.
