Celtic hero wishes Lockerbie football fan a speedy recovery after horror work accident

A Dumfriesshire football fan who was struck by a lorry in a horror accident at work has been sent a heart-warming message from Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Scott Sloan was airlifted to hospital in Newcastle with serious injuries after the incident at the Forest Sawmills site at Lockerbie on Friday afternoon.

He is now recovering from his ordeal and told family and friends via social media on Sunday: “It was a dramatic day yesterday and I’m lucky enough still to be here.”

Hart, 34, later posted an Instagram message wishing avid Hoops fan Scott a speedy recovery.

In the short clip, he said: “Hey Scott, it’s your pal Joe here mate. Just sending you best wishes and hoping you have a speedy recovery.

“Let’s try and get you back to Celtic Park soon pal”.

The video was shared on the independent fans Facebook page, Celts are Here.

Along with comments from other fans describing former England number one Hart as a “class act on and off the pitch” and a “superb person” for posting the message, thrilled Scott, wrote: “Melts my heart this!”

In his Facebook post he said he was “overwhelmed with all the messages from everyone” and added: “Feel so lucky to have so many good people about me and this (message from Joe Hart) is something special too from my Celtic family”.

Scott admitted he was “really sore” but “happy as Scotland won the rugby”.

Pal Bill Patterson teased: “The things you do for a ride in a helicopter” but Scott replied: “Never again. Hated it”.

Emergency services were called to the sawmill at Stevens Croft early on Saturday afternoon after Scott was hit by an HGV at the site.

Forest Sawmills managing director, Ross McCrosson, said colleagues are “delighted that Scott is okay and going to recover”.

He added that an internal investigation into the incident was ongoing.

The company is part of the Forest Garden Group and according to its website the Lockerbie sawmill is the UK’s largest purpose-built shed and fencing mill.
