Celtic hero Scott Brown 'keen' on transfer for one-time Hearts striker for Fleetwood

Celtic hero Scott Brown is keen on snapping up a former Hearts striker for Fleetwood, according to a report.

The legendary Hoops skipper has made a decent start to life in the dugout with four points from his opening three league games and a Carabao Cup second round clash against Frank Lampard and his Everton side on the horizon. It's been a busy summer for the ex-Scotland international in his first managerial gig.

A number of players have arrived at the Cod Army this summer including former St Johnstone star and fans' favourite Shaun Rooney. Brown is looking to dip into the English market now as he looks to seal a deal for ex- Jambo and current Morecambe striker Cole Stockton reports The Sun's Alan Nixon. The 28-year-old missed the showdown between the pair yesterday as the Celtic idol looks to agree a deal to bring him on board. He is believed to be keen on making the switch.

The report states: "Morecambe striker Cole Stockton missed the derby with Fleetwood as Scott Brown’s club tried to agree a fee.

"The Cod Army made an offer for Stockton, 28, and he is keen to move."

Speaking after the Lancashire derby, Brown told Fleetwood's official website : “After our first-half performance, I would say a point apiece is a fair result; I thought we controlled the game, but they forced us into mistakes. When they did, they created chances as they hit the post and scored a goal form us being sloppy.

“I understand that they want to try and go forwards to score goals because Morecambe were sat deep but, at the same time, we need to play a bit smarter and be more aware of the space around us.

“We didn’t do anything in the final third; there wasn’t any forward passes and no high-intensity press. I understand that it’s 30 degrees today, but it’s that urgency with the ball and the speed of movement as well and we didn’t have that in the first half.

“We made a couple of changes at the break and they added some urgency to the play and we played more like ourselves in the last 20 minutes. We were pressing higher up the park, forcing mistakes, and kept winning the ball back and continued to attack."
