Celtic hero Scott Brown issues Ayr United response to Motherwell job

Celtic hero Scott Brown has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant Motherwell job.

The Fir Park club are searching for a new manager after Stuart Kettlewell resigned.

Motherwell officials "very reluctantly" accepted Kettlewell's resignation on Monday, January 27 with the coach citing personal abuse affecting his family.

Stephen Frail has been appointed as interim manager with Jon Obika and Richard Foster assisting in the dugout.

Quickly, Brown's name emerged in rumours over a successor to Kettlewell at Fir Park.

However, the former Celtic captain has insisted he won't be heading to Lanarkshire as he keeps hi focus on Ayr United.

The former Scotland internationalist currently has his side top of the Championship table by one point over Falkirk.

And Brown has vowed he is only focused on matters at Ayr as he looks ahead to a Scottish Cup tie against former club Hibernian on Friday.

Speaking to STV, Brown said: "My main concentration is on Ayr.

"I'm really enjoying it here at this moment and I'm really looking forward to the game on Friday.

"Motherwell's a great club and I'm sure someone will go and get that job.

"It's not going to be me.

"We're in a good place at this moment in time and it's a huge game coming up on Friday.

"It's going to be brilliant for our fans to see a top quality club like Hibs.

"It's great for us as well."
