Celtic hero Neil Lennon sacked just hours after Omonia Nicosia post-match media address

Celtic hero Neil Lennon has been sacked as Omonia Nicosia manager - just hours after addressing the media in a post-match press conference.

The former Hoops manager spoke to the Cypriot press for the final time following defeat to Nea Salamis. The result left the club sitting seventh in the domestic league standings and well off the pace in the race for the league title. Omonia posted the full video of Lennon's media address on social media just 30 minutes before announcing his departure.

He landed domestic silverware within months of arriving in Cyprus and with that a spot in the Europa League. After successfully negotiating a two-legged win over Gent in the play-off round they landed a group stage section alongside Manchester United, Real Sociedad and FC Sherriff. Lennon was twice so close to historic results against the La Liga and English giants with Erik ten Hag's men grabbing an added time winner at Old Trafford thanks to Scotland international Scott McTominay.

However, it hasn't been enough to keep for the former Celtic and Hibs boss in a job with the club announcing his departure in a statement as they wished him all the best for his future.

It read: "We inform you that we have agreed with Mr. Neil Lennon to stop our collaboration.

"Mr. Lennon took over the technical leadership of our team last March, at a difficult time and managed to lead us to winning the cup and then to the historic qualification against KAA GENT and our entry into the UEFA Europa League groups, where we came close to historic results against REAL SOCIEDAD and MANCHESTER UNITED.

"Unfortunately, the ongoing competitive instability and the significant losses of points in the championship, are the main reasons that made us decide to end our partnership.

"Mr. Lennon has written his name in the history of OMONIA and deserves the respect and recognition of all of us. Our paths separate, but the memories of our collaboration will unite us forever.

"We sincerely thank Mr. Lennon for his contribution and wish him every success in his future career."
