Celtic hero Neil Lennon's son signs for new team on loan

Celtic legend Neil Lennon's son has joined a new club on loan from Scottish Premiership side St Mirren.

The defender went straight into Annan Athletic's matchday squad for their League One game against Stenhousemuir this afternoon.

They were on the wrong side of a 5-1 drubbing by the Warriors, but Lennon, 18, now has the chance to continue his development having spent time at Dumbarton last season.

A short statement reads: "The club is delighted to announce the signing of Gallagher Lennon, joining the club on loan from St Mirren.

"18 year old Lennon, son of Neil, started his youth football at Partick Thistle before signing with St Mirren last summer.

"The defender enjoyed a spell on loan at Dumbarton last season and goes straight into today’s match day squad.

"Welcome to the club Gallagher!"

Meanwhile, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie is “frightened” that Rangers will stun his old team and snatch the points in tomorrow's Old Firm clash at Parkhead. The champions are strong favourites to win the first Glasgow derby of the new season, a result which would open up a five-point lead over their biggest rivals after just four games.

But Macca, who won a league and cup double with Celtic in the club’s 1988 centenary season, fears that over-confidence could play a part and refuses to rule out a shock away win.

Speaking to betideas.com, a nervous McAvennie said: “I hate saying this but I’m frightened because I feel so comfortable that it will be a Celtic win. And that can be a bad thing.

“With these games I hate being so confident – I just hope the defence can do their job and look after them and stay tight.  Middle to front I’ve not got a problem.
