Cattanach joined Celtic in August 1963 from Stirling Albion, however didn't make his debut until just under three years later, the Daily Record reports.

His former team mate Connelly was thankful for his friendship with Cattanach and Davie’s departure from Celtic is attributed to having fuelled Connelly’s later accelerating downward spiral at the Parkhead club, both personally and on the pitch.

Many would say that it is a measure of his character that he stayed at Celtic to remain a squad player when he could have played in the first team for virtually any other club in Scotland.

Cattanach only featured sporadically for the first team, making a total of 19 appearances in all competitions for the Celts with 15 starts and four substitute appearances before moving to his hometown club, Falkirk in January 1972 where he went on to finish his career.

He also scored one goal for Celtic, which came on March 30, 1968 in a 5-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice.

After hanging up his boots, Cattanach went on to be a very successful businessman.
