Celtic FC news round-up: Champions League boost, Ange Postecoglou title celebration plan, PFA awards

Celtic FC news round-up: Champions League boost, Ange Postecoglou title celebration plan, PFA awards

CELTIC head into this weekend hoping to wrap up the Scottish Premiership title.

Ange Postecoglou's side are on the verge of sealing the league trophy and sit six points clear with just three matches left.

And following news from this afternoon, a league triumph would see Celtic straight into the group stage of the Champions Legaue.

Here's today's Celtic news...

UEFA Champions League boost for Celtic & Rangers

CELTIC and Rangers have been handed a major Champions League boost as UEFA confirmed Russian clubs won't feature in next season's European competitions.

The governing body announced Russian club sides won't feature in the Champions League, Europa League or Europa Conference League next term.

The ruling means the Scottish Premiership victors will advance automatically to the group stage of the Champions League competition.

The second-place team will go into the third qualifying round of the League Path in Champions League qualification instead of the second round after the ruling. It takes their journey to possible group stage qualification from six matches to four.

Celtic are currently on the verge of sealing a Scottish Premiership triumph as they sit six points clear over Rangers at the top of the table with three games left.

If Ange Postecoglou's side go onto claim the league title then it'll guarantee group stage football at Celtic Park next term.

And should the table remain the same it'd be Rangers heading into the third qualifying round for the Champions League.

Ange on possible Celtic title triumph plan

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has lifted the lid on his plans to celebrate winning the title with Celtic.

The Hoops edged one step closer to Premiership glory on Sunday as they drew 1-1 with Rangers at Parkhead.

Celtic boast a six-point gap over their arch city rival at the summit of the table, with just three games remaining.

Should Celtic go on to lift the title, it will secure a double for Postecoglou in his debut season as Parkhead manager - having already won the Premier Sports Cup.

Speaking to ABC TV's Offsiders show, Postecoglou discussed life in Scotland with Kelli Underwood.

The Aussie was asked how he plans to celebrate the title win as and when the Hoops as crowned champions.

He said: “It is the whole one game at a time sort of headset I have got on at the moment. I am not looking too far ahead.

“We still have a couple of steps to go. It will be special.

“I have already got a fairly decent collection of some fine Scottish whiskey.

“If it does happen then I will break open a couple of the special ones and have a couple of the quiet ones."

Celtic awards at PFA Scotland dinner

ANGE POSTECOGLOU has been named the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year.

The Celtic boss was awarded the end-of-season gong, beating Malky Mackay, Dick Campbell and Paul Hartley to the prize.

Celtic skipper Callum McGregor claimed the Player of the Year gong, while Liel Abada was named Young Player of the Year.
