Celtic fans turned Rangers transfer finance experts are terrified of mega bucks Calvin Bassey fee - Hotline

As the dust settles on a domestic season, the Hotline continues to be a battleground for fans trying to claim the bragging rights for their clubs.

It's Old Firm argy-bargy as they make their case as to which team should be better pleased with their respective trophy hauls.

Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: "Rangers are by far the best footballing side in Scotland. Just look at the European results with no biased referees plus VAR spots any contentious decisions the officials miss. It's easy to see the contrast between Rangers and Celtic in Europe when Celtic don't have their fans with whistles to help them out."

Robert Hoey, Kirkintilloch, emailed: "Quite simply the best team in Scotland is the one with the most trophies and if you check all the official records that team wears blue."

Lance Little, Erskine, said: "Hotline caller Mr Curley thinks Celtic's title win was measly. It's sour grapes from a fan of a team who won their only measly title last year but celebrated it like they had won the Champions League. Ten measly titles out of 11 will do for me. I don't fancy being second in the league and a Europa league final also-rans. Just like their club, they make us laugh."

Rab Hunter, Dumfries, said: "Whilst it was disappointing to see Rangers lose their Europa League final, one positive to come from the game was the performance of the referee. What a delight to see a game refereed fairly, evenly and with no obvious bias. The game was controlled effectively and efficiently, arguably slightly leniently, but overall very competently. Sadly it's something we can only dream of for our domestic games."

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "It is interesting to see that UEFA have no intention of awarding the fair play award to Rangers fans like they did with Celtic fans in Seville. Whether this is due to fans being filmed throwing tables and chairs around or just the fact that there were less than half the amount of fans Rangers claimed there was is unclear. It proves Celtic have the best supporters in the world."

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: "Record Sport writers David McCarthy, Michael Gannon and Andy Newport are valuing Calvin Bassey at a minimum of £20 to £25 million. Rangers financial expert Gordon Ashley's valuation is a maximum of £8million.

"Bassey is a top talent and will go for a large fee way beyond £8m. I don’t know how he knows but Ashley has been telling us for several years Rangers are skint and the thought of us getting large bundles of cash for Bassey and a few others absolutely terrifies him."

David Reid, Cumnock, said: "Mr Ashley, the Rangers finance expert , says that if, and it’s an if, he goes, Bassey will be lucky to command a fee of £7-£8 million.

"To say the quoted fees may be ambitious is fine but does he want us to believe it’s not possible when Ryan Christie goes to Bournemouth for £11.5 million and Kris Ajer to Brentford for £17.5 million. I think some creative accounting is in play here."

Tom Paterson, Falkirk, said: "Derek McInnes has made an error in not giving Chris Burke another one year contract as a player. It was he who turned the title decider against Arbroath our way when he came on for the last 20 minutes. Thanks for the memories Chris and good luck."

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "It's an absolute disgrace for Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard to be fronting up as a pundit for BT Sports for the Champions League Final. He kept saying 'we' when referring to Liverpool. The Villa supporters must have been cringing. At half-time he said it was men against boys, dry your eyes mate. I'm so happy that Gio van Bronckhorst is the main man at Ibrox."

Bill Park, Bathgate, said: "It is some achievement by Jose Mourinho to win four European trophies.

"The Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Cup, and now the Conference League. He may not be 'The Special One' anymore, but he has been a great manager, with terrific success for clubs in different countries."

Kenny Goff emailed: "Why doesn't the SPFL adopt the same thing plan as England and play all the play-off finals at Hampden just as they do down south by using Wembley. What a great day out it would be for those teams involved."
