Celtic duo Kyogo and Reo Hatate finally handed Japan international call-ups

Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate have finally been handed international call-ups for Japan after months of snubs.

The Celtic duo were left out of Hajime Moriyasu's squad for the World Cup in Qatar and they were also snubbed during more recent camps.

Kyogo and Hatate will now be involved during a Kirin Cup double-header though with El Salvador in Tokyo and Peru the opponents in Suita next month.

Daizen Maeda, who did make the squad for the World Cup, has also been called up for the matches.

Moriyasu has been widely criticised for ignoring Kyogo who was handed the Scottish Premiership Player of the Season award after netting 25 goals in 34 games this week.

And he's also snubbed Hatate despite a superb season as Celtic swept to another title and are one step away from completing a treble.

Kyogo's call up is his first since September last year for pre-World Cup friendlies and he was devastated to miss the tournament. He has three international goals in 16 appearances for his country.

Hatete was also in the squad for that game against Ecuador last year, but has only one cap.

Celtic colleague Tomoki Iwata has four caps for his country, but Maeda is a firm fixture in the Japan squad and played and scored at the World Cup - his second for his country - against Croatia at the tournament.

Moriyasu didn't even visit Scotland on a recent fact-finding mission to Europe, but has praised Kyogo's recent form.

He said: "I think what Kyogo has done have been wonderful. He has scored a lot of goals this season."
