Celtic duo competing for major award after impressive performances catch the eye

Lanarkshire's David Turnbull and Stephen Welsh are in the running for Young Player of the Year at Celtic.

The pair have endured frustrating starts in 2022 but their strong openings to their respective seasons have them nominated for the major award.

Turnbull has missed most of this year with a hamstring problem but has still managed to contribute nine goals and eight assists from 37 matches.

Welsh - from Coatbridge - meanwhile has made 22 appearances and has been praised by boss Ange Postecoglou in recent weeks, despite not featuring in a league match this year.

They are up against Liel Abada and Matt O'Reily for the award.

Wishaw's Turnbull is also in the running for Goal of the Season. His scintillating strike from 25 yards out against former club Motherwell during a 2-0 Premiership win back in October could see him scoop two prizes.

Both will hope to be involved for Celtic this Sunday when they face Rangers at Hampden in a Scottish Cup semi-final.

Then attentions will turn to this season's final five Premiership matches, Postecoglou's side currently six points clear in first.
