In a recent Champions League match between Celtic and Club Brugge, a moment of misfortune struck Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, leading to a 1-1 draw. The United States international found himself in a challenging situation when his attempted back pass to goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel went awry. Carter-Vickers' no-look pass ended up rolling into his own net, gifting Club Brugge the lead in the 26th minute.
Despite this setback, Celtic managed to secure a point thanks to a goal from Japan international Daizen Maeda in the 60th minute. The Scottish champions have been performing well in the Champions League this season and currently sit in 20th place in the standings with eight points.
With a crucial match against Dinamo Zagreb on December 10, Celtic has the opportunity to further solidify their position in the competition. Following that, they are set to face off against Young Boys and Aston Villa in January.
As per UEFA projections, Celtic's current point tally is likely sufficient to see them through to the knockout stage. The top eight teams in January will advance directly to the round of 16 in March, while teams ranked from ninth to 24th will enter a playoffs round in February to determine the remaining eight round of 16 participants.
Despite the unfortunate own goal, Celtic remains optimistic about their Champions League campaign and will be aiming to continue their impressive run in the competition.
