Celtic will reportedly 'demand' a compensation fee from Tottenham to give Ange Postecoglou the green light to join the club.
However, it is set to be 'significantly lower' than the figure banked when Brendan Rodgers left midway through the Scottish Premiership season for Leicester City back in 2019. The Australian completed a clean sweep of silverware in Scotland on Saturday when he lifted the Scottish Cup with a victory over Inverness Caley Thistle amid speculation a move to north London was on the cards.
Despite Postecoglou's silence on the topic post match at Hampden, Daniel Levy is keen to get the deal over the line and an official approach will be made to Celtic within the next 24 hours with the club reportedly 'close to appointing' the boss. However, the Scottish champions are unwilling to let their boss leave for fee with their boss on a 12-month rolling contract.
The rolling contract means that Postecoglou always has a year left on his deal on any given day. However, when Rodgers left for the Premier League he was in the midst of a four-year contract at Celtic Park.
The Telegraph report 'Celtic will demand compensation but are aware of Tottenham’s interest' and 'will not stand in Postecoglou’s way if he expresses a desire to take over at the Premier League club.'
Leicester reportedly around £9 million to land Brendan Rodgers and his staff from Celtic in February 2019 but the fee for Postecoglou 'is thought to be significantly lower.' When he arrived at Celtic Park from Yokohama F Marinos he did not bring any backroom staff.
He added Harry Kewell to his coaching team, which includes John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan, last summer. The report states 'could be open to working with Ryan Mason at Tottenham' should he take the job.
