Celtic 'considering' further tapping into Korean market in January

Celtic are interested in a move for South Korean midfielder Jeong Ho-yeon, according to a report.

The 23-year-old is a player that the Scottish champions are said to be keeping tabs on ahead of the January transfer window.

In recent years the Hoops have become renowned for tapping into the Asian market with several players arriving from the J-League and K-League.

In terms of Korea, Oh Hyeon-gyu, Yang Hun-jun and Kwon Hyeok-Kyu have all arrived within the last year.

Oh arrived from Suwon Bluewings in a January deal worth £2.5million under the watch of Ange Postecoglou, who really started the idea of looking at those markets, while the Hoops shelled out a combined £3m for Yang and Kwon in the summer.

And despite the varied success of the aforementioned names, according to FOOTBALLiST, Jeong is next on the club's list.

He is a defensive midfielder and currently plays for Gwangju FC.

The player was recently granted military exemption after participating at the Asian Games, helping South Korea win gold.

Jeong has played 18 times in the K-League this term. He played a major role in helping them to promotion from the K-League 2 last season. As the newly promoted team, they're going great guns in the top flight as they currently sit third.

Meanwhile, Celtic hero Fraser Forster has opened up on swapping shirts with Lionel Messi after the Parkhead side's 2-1 win over Barcelona in 2012.

Neil Lennon's side defeated the LaLiga giants in their way to qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.

And Forster, who played for Celtic across two spells, has nothing but fond memories of the occassion.

Speaking to the Off the Shelf podcast, he said: "I've got a signed Messi shirt. Yeah (from that game). That is probably my favourite. I have always been one of them, where I am not big on looking back."
