Celtic confirm loan exit of fourth-choice star with just two appearances this season

Celtic have confirmed Stephen Welsh will spend the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Belgian Pro League side KV Mechelen.

Behind Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales in the pecking order of Celtic's defenders, Welsh has struggled for game time this season so far, having featured only twice for Brendan Rodgers this year.

Those appearances came during the Parkhead side's 5-2 Scottish League Cup quarter-final victory over Falkirk, and the Hoops' 0-0 draw with Dundee United at Tannadice last month.

"Everyone at Celtic Football Club wishes Stephen all the best in his loan spell at KV Mechelen," read a statement on the official Celtic website.
