Celtic coach Harry Kewell names Rangers as Scottish team as pub shout out resurfaces

He's very much a Celtic man these days but it appears Harry Kewell once had a soft spot for arch-rivals Rangers. The Aussie legend has joined Ange Postecoglou's backroom staff in an appointment that excited supporters earlier this summer.

The former Leeds United and Liverpool winger is synonymous with the early 2000s Barclay's Premier League and was a breakout star in an Elland Road outfit that reached the Champions League semi-final in 2001. He's been working with the Premiership champions throughout pre-season with punters keen to see how he can bring on the likes of Jota and Liel Abada.

But he might just be on the end of some light-hearted dressing room stick after a resurfaced clip showed Kewell naming Rangers as his Scottish team. It's unclear exactly when the footage was filmed but it appears to be well before the 43-year-old had any ties to Parkhead.

The clip, circulating on Twitter, shows Kewell with two Rangers fans in a pub. One asks the Socceroos icon: "Who's your Scottish team?" And Kewell instantly replies: "Rangers."

The supporter then cajoles Kewell into saying "no surrender, Ibrox loyal" for the camera, much to the delight of he and his pal. The video has amused Rangers fans on social media, but most Celtic supporters were happy to brush it off as no big deal.

One Rangers fan took to declaring Kewell as "one of our own" but a Celtic fan summed up their feelings by replying: "As long as he’s successful with us I’m pretty sure no one cares who his team is."

The tit-for-tat between Glasgow's big two is relentless but despite this historic faux-pas, it's probably safe to say Kewell won't find himself in any hot water with the Celtic support.
