Celtic 'closing in' on Reo Hatate new contract agreement

Celtic are reportedly close to agreeing a new contract extension with Reo Hatate.

The Japanese midfielder has been in talks with the club over fresh terms at Parkhead.

And it's claimed an agreement is close with Hatate's representatives to receive official confirmation of a new contract offer in the coming days.

The Daily Mail reports that talks over a new deal began two weeks ago and discussions have been "positive" with an agreement close.

Hatate is currently under contract at Celtic until 2026 but could now extend his stay in Glasgow.

The  25-year-old had reportedly halted talks during the summer transfer window after becoming unsettled amid transfer interest.

However, he could now be in line to follow Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Callum McGregor and Anthony Ralston in committing his future to the club.

And the report goes on to state that Celtic are keen on agreeing new terms with Matt O'Riley.

Meanwhile,  new Inverness Caledonian Thistle boss Duncan Ferguson has revealed that he has spoken to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers about the possibility of taking some players on loan.

The former Everton striker has been appointed manager of the Scottish Championship club on a three-year deal.

And he is hoping the Hoops can help him add to his squad, as the 51-year-old looks to move the Highland side off the bottom of the table.

When asked if he was already looking to bring players in, Ferguson told STV: "Yes, we can get players out of the Scottish Premiership, can't we, and we can get some boys who are out of contract.

"I have already been on to one or two of the Scottish managers. I spoke to Brendan [Rodgers] this morning, so he is going to help me out hopefully.

"So we look and see if we can identify some players and we will take it from there."
