Hamilton women’s head coach Gary Doctor is urging his side to keep their heads held high after a frustrating 2-1 Lanarkshire derby loss to Motherwell.
Leanne Crichton’s corner in the first half was met by Women of Steel Paige McAllister before Carla Boyce netted the away side’s winner at New Douglas Park.
Accies thought they had hit back through Tiree Burchill at 1-0 down in the SWPL 1 clash as ‘Well goalkeeper Khym Ramsey looked to have been dispossessed inside her own box, but a foul was given.
Burchill then hit the bar and a penalty claim was waved away. ‘Well missed a spot-kick too through Chelsie Watson’s effort cracking the post.
He said: “It’s disappointing. We put a lot into the game and Motherwell are a good team. They caused us problems. But I felt as well that we caused them problems.
“We created chances of our own but it’s just frustration as to how their goals have came about. There’s been a couple of decisions that have gone against us.
“They could probably have gone our way. It’s one of those. I don’t like talking about luck as we need to make it ourselves.
“Tiree, it’s been hard on her as she made the block and scored. It’s one of these things that happen but ultimately we need to defend better than we did.”
Full-time side Celtic now await Doctor’s team, who are bottom of SWPL 1 and four points off Partick Thistle in ninth.
He added: “It doesn’t get any easier but we want to be part of these games.
“Celtic are a team we know well but we have to take the things we have been doing well and rid ourselves of things we haven’t been doing well.”
