Celtic callers all say the same thing about Rangers as Europa League marathon gives way to Scottish Cup showdown - Hotline

Rangers fans swamped the Hotline after their team charged into the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Thursday’s extra-time win over Braga has set-up a last-four showdown against RB Leipzig.

Ibrox punters are thrilled and hoping the feelgood factor spills over to Hampden for their Scottish Cup crunch against Celtic.

Firstly, Europe as John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “Rangers should take a pat on the back from the rest of the SPFL for opening the door wider to UEFA riches by raising our countries coefficient. So well done and good luck in your Euro semi final.”

Alan McGaw, Alloa, said: “Congratulations Rangers on getting to the semi-final. Outstanding performance bringing back the good European night atmosphere. Make us Dream was the banner and Braga couldn’t handle the Ibrox noise."

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Rangers have another Europa moment as Kemar Roofe takes the swaga out of Braga and they march on to the semis in the Europa League. Hope they can do the same to Celtic in the Scottish Cup and go to the Final.”

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “So proud of Rangers after another great performance in Europe. The European press and media are once again highlighting our Football Club.”

Joe Smith, Coleraine, said: “That’s the best result in Europe for a Scottish side since Rangers reached the final of the UEFA Cup in 2008. What a fairytale from the bottom tier in Scottish football to a European semi final in 10 years.”

Brian Wright, Bannockburn, said: “A fantastic game of football at Ibrox on Thursday night. Both teams were excellent, but the referee was outstanding.

“He refused to be intimidated by anyone and rightly sent the player off who was in his face. What an idiot.

Scottish referees must learn how to handle games the way he did.”

Looking to Hampden, Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “Rangers finest performance of the season. Repeat the script for Sunday, please.”

Gordon Hendry, Ochiltree, decided to get on the wind up as he said: “GVB must give these players a well-earned rest on Sunday as they now have a much bigger prize to aim for. It’s time to give some of our reserves a chance to see what they can do against a team who have been simply woeful in Europe.”

George Wilson, West Sussex, was also having a pop as he said: “Let’s hear it then from all the Celtic supporters and the Rangers haters on here who will be crying we only beat nine men and we got another penalty.

Rangers beat Braga on a thrilling night at Ibrox (PA)

“I don’t care who we beat even if it had only been the Boy Scouts Second 11, we are still in a Euro semi-final whilst Celtic supporters are lost on a Thursday now that Dragons Dens season is finished.”

Joe Graham, Garrowhill, said: “Rangers need this form to rub off on to the domestic front starting by beating Celtic to reach the Scottish Cup Final. Who knows, even a Helicopter Sunday 2 could be on the cards. I can see Ange and Celtic getting a bit jittery.”

Celtic fans appear to be more quietly-confident and keeping their powder dry for after Hampden.

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, did get in touch to say: “Credit where credit’s due. Well done to Rangers on getting to the semi-finals . It’s a decent achievement.

“Extra time, though, gives you an extra excuse on top of the usual ones to blame when we beat you on Sunday.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, added: “Well done Rangers. A fantastic achievement. Now going gets tough against a well-rested Celtic who have players who can run them ragged.

“If they lose out, get ready for the too many games syndrome, nobody likes us and we’ll get you back headlines.”
