Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou in 'poor in every aspect' verdict after defeat to St Mirren in Paisley

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has slammed his Celtic players after they fell to an abysmal 2-0 defeat at the hands of St Mirren on Sunday.

The Hoops had only lost once in all competitions up to this point of the season, albeit to reigning European and Spanish champions Real Madrid whose quality showed at Celtic Park. However, with a trip to St Mirren Park, the Australian gaffer made six changes to the side that should have beaten Shakhtar Donetsk in Warsaw in a bid to keep his key players fresh for the upcoming months.

However, the amount of changes told as goals from Mark O'Hara and Jonah Ayunga saw them drop points for the first time this season in the Scottish Premiership, with the Hoops failing to massively trouble Trevor Carson in the Buddies' goal - with particularly poor performances from Kyogo and Daizen Maeda. And Postecoglou savaged his players after the game, claiming that their performance was 'poor in every aspect' as the club let their five point lead over Rangers dwindle to just two.

He told Sky Sports: "Credit to St Mirren. They work hard, they're really committed and they got their just rewards. We were poor in every aspect of the game today and that's disappointing. There could be a thousand reasons for it, but the more you look at the wash-up is that we didn't perform to levels we have been and that cold-hearted reflection will come.

"We've had a decent run of results over the last year and part of football is to see how you overcome setbacks - today was one. I think in just about every area, we weren't up to the levels we are usually at. We didn't show the right tempo and intensity in the game to work through teams. Sometimes, after what we have achieved over the last sort of 15 months, there is always a timely reminder not to get too far ahead of yourself.

"Look, team selection is on me and if I got that wrong, then I got that wrong and it's my responsibility. There wasn't a standout performer today and we weren't at the levels we need to be to be the team that we want to be."

A home tie against Motherwell is up next for the Celts, who now have a two-week break with internationals set to be played over the coming days.
