Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou handed injury blow with key man 'out until next month'

Celtic have been handed an injury blow with the news key defender Carl Starfelt will be ruled out of first-team action until next month, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun say that the Swede - who injured his knee in the 4-0 hammering of Rangers in the first Old Firm derby of the season - does not require any surgery. However, he will miss the Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donestk and the Premiership outing at St Mirren next weekend.

The 27-year-old will also be an absentee for his country as Sweden take on a Nations League double header at the end of the month against Serbia and Slovenia. Following the international break the Hoops come up against Motherwell and RB Leipzig on matchday three of their Euro section with the defender desperate to return.

The pressure to be one of Ange Postecoglou's first choice centre backs is on with loan signing Moritz Jenz impressing alongside ever-present Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Since his arrival at the club Jenz has featured six times in all competitions. He's netted twice and set up one goal from the back. He scored a crucial goal in an away win over Ross County at Dingwall before following it up with a superb acrobatic effort against Kilmarnock.

He played the full 90 minutes of the Champions League opener against Real Madrid at Parkhead and looks set to continue in the heart of the defence with Starfelt out.
