Cumbernauld Colts gaffer Kevin Proctor says beating Hamilton Accies 3-1 this afternoon was good preparation for Celtic ‘B’ when the Lowland League kicks off in a fortnight.
Kevin, standing in for his brother David this afternoon, reckons the Parkhead reserves will be a similar standard to what John Rankin’s side brought to Broadwood.
And he says Colts can take enormous confidence from their thumping fight-back win, courtesy of Cole McIntyre’s hat-trick.
McIntyre levelled Andy Winter’s fourth-minute opener in 18 minutes, latching onto Luke McCarvel’s through ball before tucking the ball away in the bottom right corner.
Five minutes later he hit a sumptuous half-volley into the top right corner to put Colts ahead, and sealed his treble three minutes into the second half from another McCarvel set-up.
The Colts first-team coach said: “It’s a tough task against Celtic ‘B’ but the boys can take confidence from the way they’ve performed today.
“I was pleased with the result and the performance.
“They worked extremely hard, it was a disciplined performance, and we showed a bit of quality as well.
“Everything we’re working on came through in the game, so it’s really positive.
“We just look to build on that and keep our feet on the ground and get ready for two weeks’ time when the real business starts.
“Celtic ‘B’ will be a similar kind of team that we will be up against, so we’ll keep our feet on the ground, keep working hard, and see where that takes us.”
Proctor was pleased with McIntyre’s finishes, and says he’s linking up well with McCarvel, who was promoted from their under-21s.
He said: “There were some great finishes.
“Luke picks up some good spaces, as does Cole and they can come short, but they can also look to go in behind.
“There was lots of good link-up play and it’s really positive, going forward.
Some boys have come back from pre-season looking stronger and powerful, and it’s showing the way they’re finishing as well.”
