Celtic announce double-signing while also confirming double exit from Sadiku's side

The Celtic FC Women's side have announced the signing of Signe and Mathilde Carstens, while also confirming the departure of Shen Mengyu and Shen Menglu.

Twin sisters Signe and Mathilde Carstens join the club from Danish side Fortuna Hjorring, with the official Celtic website outlining Mathilde's "direct and technical skill" in the final third, and Signe's scope to contribute in central areas of the pitch.

As Elena Sadiku's side stare down European football next campaign, 22-year-olds Signe and Mathilde travel to Glasgow with experience in the UEFA Women's Champions League, having featured for Fortuna Hjorring in their last 16 tie against Barcelona in 2021.

Speaking on Celtic FC Women's double swoop, head coach Sadiku told the official Celtic website: "I’m so happy that Mathilde and Signe chose to join Celtic.

"It truly shows that players abroad believe in our vision and what we want to achieve in the upcoming seasons.

"Signe is a great player with exceptional in-game understanding and technical ability on the ball, while Mathilde, with her outstanding dribbling ability, will enhance our game with both assists and goals."

And while welcoming two new faces, the Celtic FC Women's side also announced the departure of two players who contributed to the club's recent SWPL success, and previous cup triumphs over the last few years.

Shen Mengyu and Shen Menglu will both leave Celtic FC Women ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with the club announcing the exit of both players on social media.

"We can confirm that Shen Mengyu has left the Club," said one post on X (formerly Twitter). "[Shen] departs after playing her part in a hugely successful time for Celtic FC Women – contributing towards our first ever SWPL title, two Scottish Cups and an SWPL Cup. Thank you and best of luck in your career, Shen."

Another post read: "We can also confirm the departure of Shen Menglu after two years at the Club. Lu joined in 2022 and contributed to a Scottish Cup success and our first ever SWPL title triumph. Thank you, Lu and best of luck in your future career!"
