Celtic and Rangers 'target' expected to join EFL Championship club from Man United

A highly-rated midfielder previously linked with both Celtic and Rangers has officially completed his medical to join an English Championship club.

Hannibal Mejbri travelled to Turf Moor to undergo a medical on Monday and contrary to earlier reports suggesting a loan deal with an obligation to buy was on the horizon, the young talent has signed a permanent contract with the Lancashire club.

Mejbri, who has been a standout performer in Manchester United’s youth ranks, has garnered attention from several clubs across the United Kingdom, including Glasgow's fierce rivals Celtic and Rangers.

His dynamic playing style and impressive technical skills made him a sought-after prospect, but it is Burnley who have secured his services.

The decision to move to Burnley comes after Manchester United requested a change in the structure of the deal. Instead of the initially proposed loan arrangement, the Red Devils opted for a permanent transfer.

This shift allows United to receive funds earlier, which is crucial for their ongoing financial strategy. Furthermore, the deal will include a sell-on clause, ensuring that United retains a financial interest in Mejbri’s future transfers.

The 21-year-old spent the past two seasons out on-loan at Sevilla and Birmingham City, and he made 13 first team appearances for Manchester United altogether.
