Celtic and Rangers rivalry at Southampton as Stuart Armstrong explains Joe Aribo relationship

Stuart Armstrong has been impressed by Joe Aribo's start to life at Southampton after his move from Rangers - but there's no chat on Glasgow rivalries.

Former Celtic star Armstrong and the Nigerian international combined in the Premier League club's friendly win against Monaco. Aribo joined the St Mary's club earlier this summer from Ibrox and his new midfield partner says his initial impact has been good. They have stood on opposition sides of the Glasgow divide and the Celtic invincible squad member says that he left Aribo for a period of time to settle in.

He told Southampton TV when asked whether he had difference with Aribo over his Rangers allegiances: "We don't talk about that. I didn't want to speak to him as soon as he came in. I thought I'd let him lie for a week, and then you can see in training the quality he has.

"He's very powerful, strong, technical, keeps the ball tight, very composed with his movement and his passing."

Aribo made the move to Rangers in 2019 from Charlton and his form over three years has earned him his move down south again.

Armstrong also set out his stall as a household name in Scottish football, starting with Dundee United and winning four titles at Celtic.
