Celtic and Rangers post split fixture wait could continue until Wednesday as SPFL weigh up 'commercial considerations'

Scottish top-flight clubs may need to wait another two days before they discover their post-split fixtures, according to a report.

The SPFL are currently finalising the resultant five matchdays after a dramatic weekend that saw Ross County and Motherwell clinch their spot in the top six alongside Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Dundee United with last-gasp goals.

That was at the expense of Hibs, Livingston and Aberdeen who will finish in the bottom half with St Mirren, St Johnstone and Dundee.

Fans and clubs alike are waiting patiently for the full list to drop but The Courier claim they may find out on Wednesday.

It's understood that is the most likely date based on communications between the league and the 12 Premiership sides.

The Dundee-based publication note an announcement on Tuesday is possible but a hard ask given the number of permutations and "commercial considerations" to be weighed up.

Speculation abounds as to whether Celtic and Rangers could meet in the first post-split league fixture and thus for the third time in just three weeks, with Ange Postecoglou's side beating their rivals at Ibrox on April 3 before this Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final clash at Hampden.

The second post-split fixture also falls on a Bank Holiday weekend and, depending on results in the first game after the split, could potentially be a title clincher which police have been against in the past after events at the so-called shame game in 1999.

Last week league bosses warned there could be a delay given the unprecedented scenario that meant seven out of the 12 teams could have finished in either half of the table on the weekend the split took place.
