Celtic and Rangers fans asked to join minute's applause in tribute to Lanarkshire teenager

Football fans have been urged to take part in a minute's applause at Sunday's Old Firm match in tribute to a teenager who died suddenly last weekend.

Taylor Malcolm was found dead near Union Way in Uddingston on April 22 with her death not being treated as suspicious.

The 15-year-old has been described as a huge Celtic supporter with fans of both clubs now calling for a tribute to take place during this weekend's clash, reports the Daily Record.

A post on Facebook group 'We are the Rangers' said: "Tragically my friend's sister Taylor took her own life on Saturday morning, she was only 15 and I was wondering as a group of there would be any possibly that we would be able to arrange something on Sunday, even a minute's applause in the 15th minute. Just to show a bit of support for the family."

Celtic and Rangers supporters have since shared the post far and wide, as they have called on their fellow fans to give Taylor the "send-off she deserves".

The teen's heartbroken older brother John Ford spoke to the Record on Tuesday and told how his sister's death was the second tragedy for his family after their sister, Rhiannon Ford, also died in 2019, at the age of 18.

John, 27, said he has been left "totally numb" following Taylor's passing as he begged young people who may be struggling with their mental well-being to tell their loved ones how they feel.

He described Taylor as the "best auntie" to his two children as he told how his family has been rocked by her loss. He added: "Taylor was the kindest wee soul I’ve ever known. She would do anything for anyone.

"I don’t know how my mum is going to cope, but I know I need to remain strong for her and for my kids. I’ll make sure my son Oliver and daughter Isla never forget who Taylor was."

A fundraiser has been set up to help Taylor's family with funeral costs. Her family has thanked everyone that has supported them through this tragic time.
