Celtic and Rangers duo top Premiership most valuable chart at Christmas

Celtic star Liel Abada is currently the most valuable player in the Scottish Premiership.

That's according updated 'On-Ball Value' statistics this Christmas.

Ange Postecoglou's men lead the way at the summit of the top flight by nine-points.

While the Australian has highlighted some gripes he's had with his team since returning from the winter break, their imperious domestic form continued against St Johnstone yesterday.

Abada, 21, was left on the bench for that game, with Postecoglou making several changes to his starting line-up.

However, updated data from leading statistics company StatsBomb, shows that Abada is the best-performing player in the division in terms of OBV.

The 'On-Ball Value' model is a possession value model that objectively and quantitatively measures the value of each event on the pitch.

Essentially, it's a process that looks to assign a value to each action that takes place on the football pitch based on the positive or negative impact the action has a team's likelihood of scoring and conceding.

In our previous report on this metric around six-weeks-ago, Rangers skipper James Tavernier was top of the list. However, the right-back has now dropped into second spot, with Abada jumping up from fifth.

As a result, Celtic's Jota has moved down to third, while Ryan Kent has dropped two places as well.

The biggest mover on the list was Abada, but his teammate Anthony Ralston also made a significant jump from 12th up to eighth.

Borna Barisic, Josip Juranovic and Ryan Strain are all in similar positions.

Kilmarnock winger Danny Armstrong has fallen down the list, though.
