Celine Dion postpones world tour including Manchester date after stiff-person syndrome diagnosis

Celine Dion has announced the postponement of her upcoming tour shows amid further health issues. The singer, best known for her hit 'My Heart Will Go On' explained that she has been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome and would be cancelling dates scheduled for 2023.

Dion announced the news via a video on Instagram and explained full details could be found in her Instagram bio. Stiff-person syndrome (sps) is a rare autoimmune movement disorder that affects the central nervous system.

The post read: "Celine Dion reschedules Spring 2023 shows to 2024, and cancels eight of her summer 2023 shows.!!'

A personal message from the singer was also shared in the post caption. It read: "I've been dealing with my problems with my health for a long time, and it's been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I've been going through...It hurts me to tell you that I won't be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February." - Céline.

In the video she also addresses the diagnoses, explaining: "Recently I've been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome with affects something like one in a million people. While we're still learning about tis rare condition, we now know this is what's been causing all of the spasms that I've been having."

Earlier this year the singer announced she would be cancelling and rescheduling a string of tour dates across Europe, including in Manchester. The 54-year-old musician said that she was experiencing muscle spasms but was "doing my very best to get back the level that I need to be so that I can give 100% at my shows".

It meant that shows in a number of UK cities including Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin, Glasgow, and London's O2 Arena were cancelled. They had already been rescheduled once before because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, the shows in Manchester were due to take place on Sunday, June 5 and Monday, June 6 this year at the AO arena.

The Manchester shows of the tour have been postponed to Sunday, April 9th and Monday, April 10, 2024 and will still take place at the AO Arena.
