Strap yourselves in friends because the 2024 U.S. election has come and gone, and some celebs are showing their true colours and it’s not pretty.
It seems the Donald Trump train has picked up some unexpected passengers, and fans are (rightfully) not having it. Let’s dive into this steaming hot mess shall we?
Celebs who might be secret Trump supporters:
Nicole Scherzinger
First up on our list of celebs making questionable choices is Nicole Scherzinger. The Pussycat Dolls singer found herself in hot water after liking a post from Russell Brand, the controversial comedian most known for being Katy Perry‘s ex-husband and is also currently facing sexual assault allegations.
Russell posted a pic of himself wearing a hat that said “Make Jesus First Again” – a clear nod to Trump’s Make America Great Again slogan. Nicole apparently loved it so much she commented, “Where do I get this hat!!!?”, which she promptly deleted.
Unsurprisingly, fans were not impressed with Nicole’s enthusiasm for Russell’s post, one user commented, “Imagine using gay people to promote your new show and then abandoning us at the ballot box. Shame on you.”
Another said, “I just can’t. I’m so disappointed. You’re my pop diva. Performing your music has always been my favorite; however, I can’t support you if you actively vote against my community & take money from Pride organizations. Stress or not, you could’ve made a statement tonight. If you can comment on republican posts without PR teams, you can make an authentic statement… accountability.”
It seems like she finally got her PR team on the phone as she released an apology statement on her Instagram Friday evening. Nicole wrote, “I deeply apologise for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts. When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realising that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologise to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion.”
Notably, her stance on Trump was not included in her statement at all.
Azealia Banks
In a plot twist that surprised absolutely no one, Azealia Banks revealed she’d voted for Trump, despite previously announcing she’d be backing Kamala Harris.
Azealia tweeted, “Lmao I lied, I voted for Trump yesterday,” along with a snap of her ballot paper.
This came after she’d told fans earlier in the week that she’d be voting for Harris because “Elon Musk belongs nowhere near American Politics.”
One former fan on X wrote, “Great job alienating the only people who were actually still supporting you and pulling for your success.”
Another said, “NGL I’m never streaming again this is the final straw you’re truly an awful person.”
Kim Kardashian
Next, we’ve got Kim Kardashian, who apparently thought it was a brilliant idea to post a gushing birthday tribute to Ivanka Trump mere days before the election. Read the room Kimmy!
Kim shared a selfie with the former First Daughter, captioning it “No one sweeter than you @ivankatrump” with a trio of white heart emojis.
While Kim hasn’t outright confirmed that she’s a Trump supporter, fans were quick to point out that this little display of affection, shared with Kim’s casual 360 million followers, might have been a tad more than just a birthday wish. Especially since the reality mogul has been completely quiet about the election.
In fact, the only thing she posted on election night was a photo of sky-writing that read “Kris Jenner For President“, which was up there for her mum’s birthday.
One X user summed it up perfectly: “Kim K posting this a week before the biggest election in history is a deliberate choice and I’m not saying I expected anything more from her or her family but wow!!”
Kim worked with Trump on criminal justice reform during his presidential term. She also attended a roundtable discussion on criminal justice reform hosted by Vice President Kamala Harris in April.
Hayley Mary
Then we’ve got Hayley Mary, lead singer of The Jezabels, who decided to go full MAGA despite being an Aussie citizen. In an Instagram post Hayley posed with a MAGA hat and the caption: “TRIGGER WARNING‼️ I’m pressing the fuck it button with this one.”
She posted slides with her reasoning : “Today is a dark day in Australia… Not because 73 million people legitimately elected the 47th President of the USA, but because while we were hysterically screaming and crying into Instagram about it, our own government was rushing through the final reading of a Misinformation Bill that seriously suppresses freedom of speech of ALL PEOPLE in THIS COUNTRY.”
Hayley continued her rant arguing that this bill could lead to severe consequences for anyone deemed to have shared ‘misinformation’, criticising how it could infringe on human rights across various communities.
She acknowledged that she might lose fans over her stance but insisted she was tired of self-censorship within the music industry: “What good is rock n roll if it has to be filtered through the ministries of truth and propaganda anyways?”
Fans were quick to express their disappointment. One user commented, “Do you think free speech and hate speech are the same thing? Yay a privileged cis white woman is standing up for privileged cis white men; you’re so brave babe!!!”
Another chimed in with: “What a shit take. You should’ve pressed the ‘delete’ button.” Agreed.
So there you have it folks. The 2024 election has come and gone, leaving a trail of disappointed fans and some very exposed celebs in its wake. Moral of the story: PEOPLE NEED TO GET IT TOGETHER!
