Celebrity Mastermind viewers in hysterics as James Acaster reveals bizarre subject

Fans of Celebrity Mastermind were left in stitches during tonight's episode, as one famous contestant settled on a rather strange topic as their special subject.

Taking on the black chair was comedian James Acaster, TV presenter Jean Johansson, Olympian Charlotte Worthington, and singer Michelle Gayle. They each had two minutes to answer questions about their specialised subject, before being quizzed on general knowledge.

When Clive Myrie asked James what his special subject was, the comedian said: "The history of ice cream". Despite his seeming confidence in the topic, as soon as questioning began, it was obvious that James did not know all there is to know about the frozen dessert.

Many viewers took to social media to react to James' poor knowledge of ice cream, reports Birmingham Mail. One person typed: "The history of ice cream has to be the best specialist subject ever on Mastermind. Well done James Acaster."

Another said: "Does james actually know anything about ice cream?" Another typed: "James Acaster choosing History of Ice cream as his specialist subject on Mastermind and getting 4 questions right… loml, my hero."

A fourth commented: "James Acaster on #CelebrityMastermind realising halfway through his specialist subject that he doesn’t know any of the answers is about to become a new meme."

A fifth said: "Shout out to the researcher that spent several days researching the history of ice cream only for James Acaster to show up having done NO research #Mastermind."

James scored only four points for his topic, but improved during the general knowledge round. He scored a total of 13 points, but fell short carrying off the commemorative trophy and winning money for the charity of his choice.

Olympic Gold medallist Charlotte Worthington was quizzed about all things to do with Michael Jordan, but only scored two points.

The winner was TV presenter Jean Johansson who chose Kylie Minogue as her specialist topic. After doing impressively in both rounds, she scored 19 points overall and came in 1st place to take home the trophy.

Celebrity Mastermind is on BBC One at 7.30pm on Saturday evenings.
