Celebrity hairdresser turns artist with first Manchester exhibition

Hairdresser-to-the-stars Andrew Barn has turned his hand to abstract art with his debut collection now on display in Manchester. Andrew has coiffed a galaxy of Manchester's biggest stars over the years as well as appearing on his own TV makeover show with Jane McDonald.

He is also well known for hosting his own glitzy fundraiser The Mirror Ball in Manchester. But now, Andrew has turned his hand to a new artform, with an abstract collection of acrylic on canvas.

Described as "a true feast for the senses, offering an unbridled explosion of color, emotion, and creativity", the artworks are now on public display at a unit at the Great Northern Warehouse just off Deansgate.

Andrew’s obsession started as an art therapy distraction programme whilst he was travelling the world. He began to experiment with paint and canvas and found it to be not only a creative outlet but also an experience that brought much needed colour to the long lockdown days.

The new showcase is a celebration of Andrew's artistic journey. It's a journey that he says has been "fuelled by passion, perseverance, and a deep-seated desire to create something truly unique".

Each piece is a bold statement that embodies the artist's unapologetic spirit, his raw emotions, and his infectious vivacity.

Andrew said: “From the moment you see these unique, unapologetic pieces, you'll be transported to a world of pure imagination, where lines and colours blend together in a breathtaking symphony of expression.

"Each piece is a bold statement that embodies my spirit and raw emotions. Whether you're an art connoisseur or a casual observer, I hope that my work will leave a lasting impression on all those who experience it.”

The showcase can be viewed at the Great Northern Warehouse, fronting on to Deansgate, daily. And plans are also afoot for a spectacular multi-venue exhibition later on this year.

Andrew’s work is available to buy - prices range from £50 to £500 - and he is also open to commissions whilst also maintaining his hairdressing day job at Klub inside Manchester Hall. He has been a mainstay in hair and beauty across the city over the past ten years working on commercial shoots, his own ITV TV show with Jane Macdonald and everything from the Soap Awards to destination weddings in Italy.

Most recently, his hairdressing work was seen at the 2023 British Soap Awards held at The Lowry Theatre in Salford. He was part of the "Glam Squad" behind the stunning red carpet looks of Coronation Street stars Tina O'Brien, Julia Goulding and Lisa George.
