Bounty lovers will be left disappointed this Christmas after Mars announced it will be removing the chocolates from select Celebrations tubs.
New data, conducted by Mars Wrigley, suggests that the coconut-filled chocolate sweets are a "national cause of division", with 39% of people in the UK wanting to banish them from Celebrations tubs altogether.
Taking note of this, the confectionary brand has teamed up with Tesco to trial a new initiative of No Bounty tubs in the lead up to the festive season.
For these limited-edition tubs, additional Mars, Snickers, Milky Way, Galaxy and the all-time favourite – Maltesers, will be drafted in to make up for the missing Bounty’s.
This trial will truly put the popularity of the Bounty to the test, as it was also recently revealed that 18% of Brits admitted they would feel annoyed if they opened a Celebrations tub to find only Bounty’s were left.
Not only this, but a whopping 58% of people said that this would lead to a family argument - which is not what you want at Christmas.
The study, which polled 2,000 UK-based chocolate lovers aged 18 – 65, also revealed that 22% of people like Bounty the least out of all the chocolates in the Celebrations tub. Moreover, a hard lined 28% believe coconut does not belong in a chocolate bar at all.
This year’s No Bounty Celebration tubs follows the brand’s successful ‘Bounty Return Scheme’ in 2021, which encouraged Bounty haters to return their unwanted chocolates and swap them for more-loved Maltesers after the Christmas period.
Emily Owen, Mars Wrigley’s Head of Celebrations Festive Cheer said: "Christmas is the time for giving – but it seems this year, the British public are keen for us to take away…Bounty. Last year, we gave customers the opportunity to return their unwanted Bounty chocolates.
"Now, off the back of public demand, we’re trialling taking them out of the tub altogether. You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone! And to those loyal (and secret) Bounty lovers out there, there’s still a chance they’ll make a return after the trial."
From November 8 - December 18, shoppers can head to their nearest Tesco with a Christmas Market pop-up and exchange Celebrations tubs they bought that day for a No Bounty tub instead.
And although there are no participating stores in Scotland, shoppers still have the chance to get their hands on a No Bounty tub. By looking out for signage in Tesco stores and on Tesco.com, hopefuls can enter an exclusive text to win competition between 16th November and 7th December with chances to win Bounty-less tubs.
