Celebrated American author Peter Straub died on September 4, 2022 due a prolonged illness. He was 79. Straub is best-known for writing dark fantasies, horrors, and psychological thrillers.
Sharing the news of his death Straub's daughter Emma Straub, who is also an author, said on Twitter, "My father, Peter Straub, died on Sunday night." In the thread se posted pictures of the late author.
Remembering the Straub, author Stephen King-- who co-authored 'A Dark Matter' and 'The Talisman' with Peter Straub-- took to Twitter where he posted, "It's a sad day because my good friend and amazingly talented colleague and collaborator, Peter Straub, has passed away. Working with him was one of the great joys of my creative life."
Paying his condolences, author Neil Gaiman tweeted, "“Peter Straub 1943-2022 One of the best writers I've read, one of the best friends I've known. Always kind, funny, irascible, brilliant. Once performed the Crow position in yoga, in a Milwaukee WI men's room, because he was fearless & proud of his yoga. I'll miss you Peter.”
Gaiman further said in another tweet, “I’ll miss the books he would still have written, but more than that I’ll miss the conversations we’ll now never have.”
Straub was born on March 2 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US. His first poetry book 'Ishmael and Open Air' wa published in 1972, followed by his first novel titled 'Marriages' in 1973. Later in 1975, his first horror book 'Julia' was pulished which was adapted into a movie. During his lifetime, he wrote several novels and short stories. Straub turned to writing horror stories on the advice of his agent.
The late author was married to Susan Bitker. Together they have two children- Ben and Emma.
