The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) is exploring the possibilities of migrating the annual Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) entrance examination for admissions to engineering and pharmacy courses to the virtual mode.
Testing waters for the Herculean task that would enable over a lakh students to take the examination online, the CEE has invited Expressions of Interest (EoI) from agencies with proven experience of holding similar tests.
The document that contains detailed proposals that factors in the number of examinees, examination centres, Internet connectivity and other logistics will have to be submitted by April 13.
According to official sources, no policy decision has been taken for the proposed transition. A time-frame has also not been fixed for phasing out the optical mark recognition (OMR) answer sheets. A final decision will be taken only after studying the prospects of the reform.
While the CEE has been holding online entrance examinations for various courses, including three-year and five-year LLB, LLM, MSc Nursing and KMAT, it would require much preparedness for the KEAM on account of the number of candidates. The availability of broadband connections across all examination centres will determine the feasibility of the move.
