Cedric Soares targets Arsenal return after Fulham loan as Takehiro Tomiyasu injury offers chance

Cedric Soares wants to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place under Mikel Arteta next season.

The right-back has spent the second half of the season at Fulham after Arteta gave him the green light to leave on loan in January.

Cedric has started just three games for Marco Silva’s side and has set his sights on returning to Arsenal and earning back his spot in the squad.

Ben White has shone at right-back for the Gunners this season and Takehiro Tomiyasu has been used as a back-up, but the Japan international faces a long spell out after knee surgery. The injury to Tomiyasu could lead to an opportunity for Cedric in pre-season.

He has one year remaining on his current contract at Arsenal, which is worth £100,000-a-week. He was signed on a free transfer in 2020 and has proved a useful squad member for Arteta by filling in at full-back on both the right and left.

Arsenal are understood to have indicated to Cedric that they want him to stay and be part of the squad.
