Mediators involved in the ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas have announced the formation of a 'follow-up mechanism' in Egypt. This mechanism will serve as a platform through which any violations to the ceasefire agreement can be reported and addressed promptly.
Speaking on the expectations for the agreement, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani emphasized the importance of both parties adhering to the terms and staying committed. He acknowledged the complexity of such agreements and the likelihood of encountering issues along the way.
When questioned about ensuring the sustainability of the agreement, Al Thani highlighted the presence of clear implementation mechanisms. These mechanisms include specific provisions for the initial 42 days and a structured process for negotiating subsequent phases.
Calling for calm during the implementation period, Al Thani urged both parties to refrain from military operations or attacks. He expressed hope that the agreed-upon timeline for implementation would proceed smoothly without any disruptions.
As part of the initial phase of the agreement, it was announced that 33 hostages would be released from Gaza. This gesture marks a significant step towards building trust and fostering goodwill between the conflicting parties.
